Wading for You illuminates a liminal space where people and animals alike float through the floodwaters. Inhabitants search aimlessly for a way to rest as delirium sets in and a new dialogue begins. Time slows and uncertainty lingers among them, and for us, always too late for causes and too early for conclusions. Slack water shapes this condition, concealing so much while leaving certain parts vulnerable. The stark field collapses the surrounding space and corrals our attention to them, ridiculous and tender. I am interested in the distance between what these circumstances look like from the outside and what it feels like to live within them.

Gingles has exhibited internationally, with work appearing at the Museum of Modern Fine Arts in Minsk, Belarus; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje, Macedonia; the Cvijeta Zuzorić in Belgrade, Serbia; the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum in Gimpo-si, South Korea; and Pärnu, Estonia. His work was selected for the London Celeste Prize and featured in New American Paintings. His most recent solo exhibition, By a Thread, was presented at the University of Kentucky's Bolivar Gallery. He maintains a painting studio in Robinson, Texas, and is Professor of Art at Baylor University.
